Walk - 12 - 22 September 2010

There are a variety of different walking options available over the 11 days. We cover highways, local roads, fire trails, bush walks and footpaths. There is a walk suitable for anyone who would like to get involved. Start walking towards a cure for MS.  Register with us, set up your own fundraising page on GoFundraise and get your friends to support your efforts.

If you don't feel like walking, there are plenty of support roles we need your help with. Please see below under Support.

Note:  Sorry no bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller skates or dogs, except guide dogs, are allowed for all walk legs.

Day 1 - Sunday Sept 12 - Cudgegong Country
1. Join us at the old TAFE site near Lawson Park for the Mudgee Community 6km Fun walk (starts 9.00am) and at Lawson Park for the 14km Fun run (starts 9.15am). Choose the distance which best suits you. All welcome. Register now to secure your place.


6km Walk Route: From Old TAFE site walk in westerly direction along Short St, turn Left into Douro St and continue to end turning Left into Madeira Rd, continue through roundabout and turn Right into Robertson St, after golf course on your left turn Left into Lions Drive and continue to Highway to be assisted across road by VRA to Bunnings side of Highway for Sausage Sizzle and Children's Entertainment.
 14km Run Route: From 100 metres within Lawson Park exit Park at Roundabout and continue on Right side footpath in a Northerly direction along Church St/Ulan Rd before turning Right into Lue Rd and crossing to Left side of road. Turn Right into Rocky Waterhole Rd, then Right into Burrundulla Rd before meeting up with Lions Drive and finishing in Bunnings Mudgee carpark, or



2. Join us at 12.00 noon for the first leg of the journey from Bunnings Mudgee to Apple Tree Flat. (14kms). Max 8 walkers. Register early to secure your place. Good fitness levels required for this leg.
 
Day 2 - Monday Sept 13 - Lake Windermere & beyond
Start at 8.00am from Apple Tree Flat (Riverlea Rd) and walk, with some safety pickups, to Foxwood Farm Fine Food Cafe at Running Stream (25kms). Max 8 walkers. Register early to secure your place. Good Fitness levels required for this leg.
    Day 3 - Tuesday Sept 14 - Hidden Gorge 
    Start at 8.00am from Foxwood Farm Fine Food Cafe, Running Stream and walk with various safety pickups to Royal Hotel, Cullen Bullen (25kms). Max 8 walkers. Register early to secure your place. Good Fitness levels required for this leg.
      Day 4 - Wednesday Sept 15 - The Power Stations walk
      Start at 8.00am from Royal Hotel, Cullen Bullen and walk with various safety pickups to Lithgow (13kms) Max 8 walkers. Register early to secure your place. Good Fitness levels assumed for this leg.
        Day 5 - Thursday Sept 16 - Heartbreak Hill in the bush
        Start at 8.30am at junction Great Western Highway (GWH) and Browns Gap Rd, Hartley. Continue to Lawsons Long Alley Way (LLAW) bush track via Waltons Rd, Hartley Vale, to Mt York Rd and finally arrive Mt Victoria (15kms). Max 8 walkers. Register to participate. Good fitness levels required for steep 15 min ascent on Lawson's Long Alley Way (LLAW).  
          Day 6 -  Friday Sept 17 - Upper Mtns Springtime Walk
          Start at 8.00am from Imperial Hotel Mt Victoria. Continue on Station St via Blackheath to Medlow Bath. Walkers will be picked up at Medlow Bath to be transported to Explorer's Tree to resume walk into Katoomba (14kms). Max 8 walkers. Register to participate.   
            Day 7 - Saturday Sept 18 - Jewels of the Mountains Walk
            Start at 8.00am from The Carrington Hotel, Katoomba and walk primarily via footpath and local roads to Leura, Wentworth Falls, Bullaburra, Lawson, Hazelbrook and Woodford finishing at Bulls Camp Reserve (22kms). Max 8 walkers. Register to participate.
              Day 8 - Sunday Sept 19 - Oaks Fire Trail 
              Start at 8.00am at NPWS* Taylor Road Gates, Woodford and finish at Glenbrook Park (29kms). Please stay for sausage sizzle and Glenbrook Chamber of Commerce "Sunday Groove" concert at Glenbrook Park running from 12pm - 4pm. Walkers are expected to reach Park by 2pm after breaking for morning tea and lunch around 10am and 11.30am.


              Bring adequate water, lunch and wear appropriate footwear. Hiking boots may be more suitable for this section but runners should be adequate with good weather, however, be prepared for all weather conditions. Good fitness levels required for this leg. Not recommended for under 18 years of age due to length of walk and no easily available exit if child fatigues during this walk. Register to participate.


              Glenbrook Park is reached by continuing along Bruce Rd for 1.1km from NPWS Glenbrook park entrance, turning Right into Euroka Rd and continuing 300mtrs on Left hand side footpath to cross road at Park St for direct entrance to Park.
                Day 9 - Monday Sept 20 - Panthers/Eels Territory
                Start at 8.00am from Nepean Shores Riverside Resort, Tench St, Penrith and walk primarily via footpath and local roads to Blacktown Workers Sports Club (29kms). Good fitness levels required for this leg. Register to participate.  
                  Day 10 - Tuesday Sept 21 - Blacktown to Ryde
                  Start at 8.00am from Blacktown Workers Sports Club, Reservoir Rd, and walk primarily via footpath and local roads to Stamford Grand, North Ryde (32kms). Good fitness levels required for this leg. Register to participate.
                    Day 11 - Wednesday Sept 22 - The Final Countdown
                    Start at 8.00am from Stamford Grand, North Ryde (cnr Epping Rd/Herring Rd) and continue via Talavera Rd to Ryde Rd. Join Pacific Highway southbound at junction of Mona Vale Rd and continue to MSRA/F5m offices in Mowbray Rd, Chatswood to finish off this fantastic event. Register to participate.

                      Bike Ride
                      Day 8 - Sunday Sept 19 - Oaks Fire Trail 
                      Start at 8.00am at NPWS* Taylor Road Gates, Woodford and finish at Glenbrook Park (29kms). Please stay for sausage sizzle and Glenbrook Chamber of Commerce "Sunday Groove" concert at Glenbrook Park running from 12pm - 4pm. Walkers are expected to arrive around 2pm. 


                      Bring adequate water, lunch and be prepared for all weather conditions. Cyclists must wear bicycle helmet. Good fitness levels required for this leg. Not recommended for child under 18 years due to length of cycle and no easily available exit if child fatigues during this cycle ride. Register to participate.

                        Support
                        Support crew are needed on each of the above mentioned days to 
                        • drive vehicles 
                        • navigate 
                        • prepare meals
                        • attend to walkers' podiatry and physio needs
                        • maintain vehicles 
                        • replenish/acquire necessary supplies 
                        • man fundraising and information booths in designated towns 
                        • sell promotional merchandise and count/process money collected
                        • co-ordinate community morning/afternoon teas with schools and other community groups
                        • liaise with local radio and media 
                        • solicit sponsorship support 
                        • distribute event flyers
                        • provide support for any local fundraising events along the way
                        • assist with administrative duties
                        • manage volunteer support

                        Businesses can become a supporting team for a tax deductible donation. Match your staff members team registration (individual registration fee x no. of participants) to a minimum of $300. We will acknowledge your contribution on our website and issue a certificate in recognition of your support which you can display.
